The Kerala High Court directed the Customs Department to promptly decide on actor Dulquer Salmaan’s plea seeking provisional release of his Land Rover Defender, seized during “Operation Numkhor.”
The Court noted that the seizure was based on vague and unsubstantiated apprehensions rather than clear justification, and the Court demanded proper reasons from the department.
The actor had contended that continued custody could damage the vehicle. Observing that no material indicated any illegal import or sale.
The Court reprimanded the department for overstepping its authority and depriving the actor of his property without adequate justification, stressing that seizures must rest on genuine and verifiable grounds.
