Kerala High Court Dismisses Bail Cancellation Plea Against Lawyer Accused of Rape

The Kerala High Court, led by Justice G Girish, dismissed a petition seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to a lawyer accused of raping a fellow lawyer on the false promise of marriage.

The Court upheld the trial court’s bail order, noting it contained strict conditions to ensure investigation progress without interference. The accused allegedly sexually assaulted the complainant since July 2023, coerced her into abortion, and misappropriated her belongings.

While the prosecution claimed non-cooperation, no bail cancellation petition was filed.

The High Court clarified its bail observations would not affect the trial’s merits and emphasised the trial court’s order was not erroneous.
