Kerala High Court Raises Concerns Over Exploitation of Women in ART Procedures

The Kerala High Court has voiced concern over possible exploitation of women from marginalised communities in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) procedures, including surrogacy and egg donation.

A Division Bench of Justices Devan Ramachandran and M.B. Snehalatha noted that women with limited education and support are often enticed into ART services with promises of financial gain.

The observations came after a Health Department raid at an ART facility, where several women were reportedly housed under questionable conditions.

The authorities moved the women to a shelter home, leading the ART clinic to challenge their detention before the Court.
