The Kerala High Court granted partial relief to the makers of the film Haal, permitting its release on the condition that a beef biryani scene, alleged to hurt religious sentiments, be deleted.
The Court quashed the CBFC’s decision to grant only an “A” certificate unless six modifications were made. It allowed the film’s exhibition after the filmmakers agreed to remove the disputed scene, thereby balancing artistic freedom with public sensitivity.
The Court also observed during hearings that mere discomfort cannot automatically justify censorship.
