The Kerala High Court granted interim protection from arrest to Malayalam rapper Hiran Das Murali, known as Vedan, in a rape case filed by a woman doctor.
Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas passed the order on Vedan’s anticipatory bail application, preventing his arrest until the next hearing. The complaint alleges Vedan sexually exploited the woman under false promises of marriage during their consensual relationship from 2019 to 2021.
Vedan claimed the relationship was voluntary and the complaint arose after a personal fallout. The complainant opposed bail, citing two other rape complaints against Vedan.
Earlier this year, Vedan was arrested twice in unrelated cases but released on bail both times.
