The Kerala High Court has initiated suo motu criminal contempt proceedings against former CPI(M) MLA R Rajesh for a Facebook post accusing judges of favouring the Sangh Parivar. Justice DK Singh said Rajesh’s remarks scandalised the court and lowered public confidence in the judiciary.
The post, made on July 5, questioned the impartiality of judges hearing university-related matters. The court framed charges under the Contempt of Courts Act and directed Rajesh to appear on July 23.
The bench emphasised that no individual, including public figures, can malign judges or undermine the judiciary’s integrity and authority.
