The Kerala High Court has issued new directions for recording the evidence of vulnerable witnesses, particularly those who are deaf and mute.
Justice P. Gopinath made the ruling in a case involving the conviction of a man for raping his deaf and mute neighbour.
The court emphasized that an individual aligned with the prosecution cannot act as an interpreter. Additionally, the presiding judge must formally record satisfaction regarding the competence of the witness and the interpreter used.
