Kerala High Court Proposes Draft Rules for Senior Advocates Designation

The Kerala High Court has published the High Court of Kerala (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2025, proposing a transparent and merit-based process.

Suggestions and objections can be submitted in writing to the Registrar General, High Court of Kerala, Ernakulam, by October 6, 2025.

The draft mandates that an advocate be at least 45 years old with 10 years’ practice or equivalent judicial/tribunal service, uphold ethics, mentor juniors, contribute to pro bono work, and maintain a clean record. Applications will be scrutinised by the Full Court.

Designation may be withdrawn if misconduct is proven by a Bar Council.
