Kerala High Court declined to stay a single-judge ruling permitting a government-aided Muslim Girls’ Higher Secondary School to introduce co-education.
While the Bench refused to halt the transition for the 2026-27 academic year, they clarified that any admissions would be subject to the final outcome of the pending appeal.
The dispute began when the school challenged a state circular requiring local municipal approval for the change. The single judge had previously criticized the municipality’s delay, labeling the requirement for local consent as a potential gateway to arbitrary power.
The matter is now scheduled for further hearing on May 21, 2026.
