Kerala High Court Slams ECI After Duty Officers Denied Voting Rights

The Kerala High Court criticized the Election Commission of India (ECI) after approximately 20,000 officials on election duty were unable to vote.

The Court expressed dissatisfaction with the ECI's "adamant" refusal to resolve the issue for those denied postal ballots during the 2026 assembly elections.

The Court reminded the ECI that its primary duty is to facilitate the franchise for every citizen, especially those working "day and night" to conduct the polls.

While the ECI blamed the employees for negligence, the Court emphasized that public interest necessitates ensuring these officers are not deprived of their fundamental right to vote.
