Kerala High Court Slams Officials for Allowing Political Party Rallies on Footpaths

  • Case Name: N Prakash v. MV Govindan & Ors

During the recent hearing of the ongoing matter, the Kerala High Court strongly criticized State officials for permitting political parties to hold meetings on roads and footpaths, violating court orders.

The case filed by one N Prakash alleged willful disobedience of a 2010 judgment prohibiting public meetings on roads and road margins and argued that blocking roads violated Articles 19(1)(d) and 21 of the Constitution.

The court rejected the apology, stating “Mere tendering of apology is not enough.”

The Court observed that such events disrupt public movement and ordered officials and political leaders, including CPI(M) and Congress, to submit explanations by March 3.
