The Kerala High Court has directed the state government to enforce mandatory safety protocols for public transport operators, including the installation of fatigue detection systems in vehicles to prevent accidents caused by driver exhaustion.
The ruling came in response to a PIL highlighting rising road fatalities due to overworked drivers.
The court emphasised that such measures are essential to protect passengers and pedestrians, aligning with global safety standards.
The Bench affirmed the legality and validity of the STA’s decision, the Transport Commissioner’s circular, and consequential notices, while dismissing all challenges raised by the petitioners.
