An Alipore court in Kolkata vacated the interim injunction against Pan Macmillan India in a defamation suit over the book The Dirty Dozen, authored by journalist N Sundaresha Subramanian, which details 12 major corporate defaulters, including Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi.

The Court ruled that the book is based on facts, written in the public interest, and backed by credible sources

Electrosteel Casting Ltd (ESL) sought an injunction, a public apology, and ₹50 crore in damages, alleging defamatory content.

It was alleged that a chapter in the book contained false, malicious and defamatory statements regarding ESL.

However, the Court found the information was already public, making the injunction ineffective and infructuous.
