The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Kupwara, has found Sky Touch Educational Institute, Trehgam, liable for deficiency in service after it withheld the leaving certificates of a student over pending fees.
The Commission, comprising President Peerzada Qousar Hussain and Member Nyla Yaseen, observed that the refusal of essential documents harmed the complainant’s children by blocking their admission to other schools.
Citing Usha Rani v. Principal, St. Joseph’s Convent School (2018), it ruled such conduct as unfair. Proceeding ex parte, the Commission ordered the school to pay ₹2 lakh as compensation and ₹20,000 as litigation costs to complainant Nazir Ahmad Khan.
