Lamp Lighting Dispute at Thiruparankundram Hill Shrine Reaches Supreme Court

Tamil Nadu authorities have approached the Supreme Court challenging a Madras High Court order allowing devotees of the Arulmigu Subramania Swamy Temple to light the Karthigai deepam lamp on the deepathon located on the lower peak of the Thiruparankundram hill.

The appeal was mentioned before a Bench led by the CJI, which said it would examine the matter.

The High Court had held that the temple’s right extends to the area where the deepathon stands and directed the administration to ensure no obstruction to devotees.

A Division Bench dismissed the State’s challenge, prompting the present appeal.
