Lok Sabha refers Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025 to parliamentary panel

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday referred three bills, including the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, to a Joint Parliamentary Committee for scrutiny.

Moved by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the resolution was adopted amid opposition protests. The amendment bill proposes the removal of ministers, including the Prime Minister or Chief Minister, if detained for 30 consecutive days in cases punishable with at least five years’ imprisonment.

Similar provisions are introduced through amendments to the Government of Union Territories Act, 1963, and the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.

The Committee will submit its report in the next session.
