A Lucknow court imposed a ₹200 fine on Rahul Gandhi for failing to appear in a defamation case over his remarks on Vinayak Savarkar in 2022.
Gandhi allegedly called Savarkar a British collaborator and pension receiver, which led to charges under Sections 153A and 505 of the IPC. The court previously found a prima facie case against Gandhi and summoned him.
Gandhi's non-appearance on March 5, 2025, resulted in the fine, which was ordered by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Alok Verma.
The court has now fixed April 14 as the next date of hearing.
