The Madhya Pradesh High Court held that a wife’s false allegations of alcoholism and persistent humiliation of her husband constituted mental cruelty.
The Court found that such conduct destroyed marital harmony and rendered cohabitation impossible, providing sufficient grounds for divorce. The Court observed that documents relied upon by the family court to substantiate the alleged liquor addiction lacked evidentiary value.
Considering the couple’s professional lives, the Court noted the wife’s deliberate intent to socially humiliate the husband and consequently allowed the husband’s petition for dissolution of marriage.
