The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ruled that guardians will be held legally liable if minors are found to be using banned Chinese nylon thread (manjha).
The ruling was passed by the Indore Bench ahead of Makar Sankranti, in view of repeated deaths and accidents linked to the use of the prohibited thread.
In a suo motu PIL, the Court directed strict enforcement of the ban on manufacture, sale, storage and use of Chinese manjha across Indore and adjoining districts.
It ordered authorities to register criminal cases under Section 106(1) of the BNS, 2023, and to conduct extensive public awareness campaigns highlighting the ban and penal consequences.
