The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notice to the State Government on a plea challenging the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Promotion Rules, 2025.
The rules, notified after a nine-year gap, provide a 20% reservation for Scheduled Tribes and a 16% reservation for Scheduled Castes, alongside merit-based promotion opportunities. Petitioners cited pending Supreme Court cases on reservation in promotions to question the rules' validity.
The Court directed the State to explain how the 2025 rules differ from the 2002 version before the next hearing on July 15.
The State defended the rules, stating they were framed after consulting the Law Department and judicial decisions to avoid legal obstacles.
