The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued a notice on a PIL challenging liquor shops charging above MRP, causing losses to consumers and the state.
The petitioner claimed multiple complaints were submitted to excise authorities, but no effective action was taken against erring vendors. The plea also stated that the excise department failed to enforce pricing rules under the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act, 1915.
The division bench directed the state to file an affidavit detailing complaints received, raids conducted, and actions taken between April 1 and June 15, 2025.
The petitioner also sought a writ directing cancellation of licenses and imposition of penalties. The matter is listed after four weeks.
