Madras High Court Issues Guidelines for Safe Cattle Transport, Emphasizes Welfare

The Madras High Court has issued strict guidelines for the transportation of cattle, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Justice Nirmal Kumar emphasized adherence to animal welfare regulations, mandating adequate space, ventilation, and proper loading/unloading measures to prevent injury.

The court directed strict compliance with documentation requirements and ruled that long journeys must include rest stops, food, and water provisions. 

The verdict came after a case involving illegal cattle transport to Kerala, where animals were found jam-packed and injured. 

The court upheld the confiscation of cattle and rejected the petitioners’ claims, reinforcing animal protection laws.
