The Madras High Court issued notice to TARC Studio LLP and Netflix after AP International, a film distributor, claimed that scenes from Rajinikanth’s movie Chandramukhi were used without permission in the documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.
AP International, which holds global copyright over the movie (except for some regions), said clips were taken from its YouTube channel without a license, violating the Copyright Act, 1957.
AP International sought ₹5 crore in damages, a permanent injunction, and mandatory removal of the footage. It also stated that cease-and-desist notices were ignored, and rights negotiations were only initiated after the content was used.
The Court has directed both the producers and Netflix to respond within two weeks.
