The Madras High Court sentenced Special Sub-Inspector (SSI) K. Sankar to three months of simple imprisonment for contempt of court after he forged an Inspector’s signature in a charge-sheet filed despite a stay order.
Justice P. Velmurugan held that the act amounted to cheating the court, as the charge-sheet was a crucial document.
The proceedings arose from a writ petition filed by Panneer Selvam Pradeepan, whose FIR investigation had been stayed in 2023. Despite this, the police filed a charge sheet and issued a Look Out Circular.
On inquiry, it was revealed that SSI Sankar forged Inspector Rangarajan’s signature after his transfer. The Court quashed the LOC and punished Sankar.
