The Madras High Court directed Tamil Nadu police to arrest ADGP HM Jayaram for his alleged involvement in an abduction case where his official vehicle was misused.
KV Kuppam MLA “Poovai” Jagan Moorthy, accused of conspiring in the crime, was denied anticipatory bail and criticized for misusing political power and obstructing the investigation.
The case arose from a complaint by Lakshmi, whose younger son was abducted after her elder son’s inter-caste marriage.
The court called the MLA's actions “Kangaroo justice” and a betrayal of public trust, emphasising that no one, including top officials, is above the law. (Jaganmoorthy v Inspector of Police)
