Madras High Court Lifts Ban on Tamil Magazine's Website Over Modi-Trump Cartoon

The Madras High Court directed the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to lift the ban on Tamil weekly Ananda Vikatan's website, which was blocked for a cartoon featuring PM Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump.

Court ruled that the ban was excessive and suggested temporary removal of the cartoon instead.

The Centre argued that the cartoon could impact India-US relations, citing Article 19(2) and IT Act Section 69A. 

The court ordered the government to respond within two weeks, emphasizing the need to balance press freedom and state interests.
