The Madras High Court refused to stop the release of the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Parasakthi, rejecting an application to restrain its exhibition in theatres and on OTT, in a copyright suit alleging the movie’s script was stolen.
The suit by K V Rajendran, who registered a script titled Chemmozhi in 2010 and claimed it was pirated for Parasakthi, sought to bar director Sudha Kongara and others from associating their names with the film.
The Court held that the interim relief to prevent screening went beyond the relief claimed in the plaint, and noted the delay in filing the suit.
With the balance of convenience not in Rajendran’s favour, and no prima facie case made for interim relief, the application was dismissed, allowing the movie’s release as scheduled.
