Vijay’s TVK Not a Recognised Political Party, Says EC: Madras High Court

The Election Commission of India told the Madras High Court that Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor Vijay, is not a recognised political party under election law.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice Sanjay V Gangapurwala and Justice G Arul Murugan was hearing a PIL filed by C Selvakumar seeking action against TVK after a stampede at its Karur rally on September 27.

The court directed the Registry to list all connected cases before a specific Bench, except those pending in the Supreme Court, and officially recorded the EC’s statement on TVK’s legal status.
