Madras High Court Seeks DGCA’s Stand On Extending IndiGo’s Exemption From Pilot Fatigue Norms

Madras High Court Seeks DGCA’s Stand On Extending IndiGo’s Exemption From Pilot Fatigue Norms

The Madras High Court has asked the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to clarify whether it proposes to extend the exemption granted to IndiGo from complying with certain pilot fatigue-management norms under the Civil Aviation Requirements, 2024.

The Court was hearing a writ petition filed by a Chennai resident challenging the DGCA’s December 5, 2025, order granting the airline relaxation from specific safety provisions. The petitioner contended that the DGCA has no statutory authority to dilute mandatory safety norms through executive orders.

The Court said interim relief may be considered after hearing IndiGo and directed the DGCA to file a counter-affidavit clarifying its position by January 5, 2026.

The matter is listed next on January 6, 2026.
