Wife Prioritising Her Career, Not Relocating With Husband Not Cruelty: Madras HC Dissolves the Marriage

The Madras High Court held that a wife's choice to prioritize her career and refuse relocation to Canada for her husband's job does not amount to cruelty under Section 13(1)(i-a) of the Hindu Marriage Act.

The husband alleged disrespect and abandonment, while the wife cited a lack of communication and her career goals. The court observed that their disagreements were normal marital wear and tear and found no evidence of cruelty.

However, noting the couple’s inability to reconcile and the failure of conciliation efforts, the court dissolved the marriage on the grounds of irretrievable breakdown and mutual differences.
