Madras High Court condemns ego-driven Ganesha Idol installations, mandates eco-friendly compliance

The Madras High Court, led by Justice B. Pugalendhi, ruled that many requests to install Lord Ganesha idols for Vinayaka Chaturthi are motivated by ego clashes and monetary dominance, not genuine faith.

It emphasized that God symbolizes unity and peace, not rivalry. The Court criticized last-minute applications causing administrative strain and called for equal treatment of all petitioners.

It mandated strict adherence to eco-friendly guidelines, permitting only clay idols with natural paints for immersion to prevent environmental damage. Immersions must follow state pollution control norms and obtain certification confirming idols are free from harmful materials like plaster of Paris.
