The Madras High Court criticised Tamil Nadu Police for casually closing a criminal case over a Facebook post that showed Lord Krishna stealing clothes from gopis with vulgar captions.
The Court said depictions of religious figures must be handled sensitively and freedom of expression cannot extend to hurting religious sentiments.
The court noted the police’s investigation was mechanical, relying solely on Meta for info despite having personal details of the page admin.
The Court ordered the probe to be reopened and directed a final report within three months.
