Madras High Court dismisses Sun Pictures' challenge to 'A' certificate for Rajinikanth’s Film Coolie

The Madras High Court dismissed a petition by Sun Pictures challenging the ‘A’ (adults only) certificate granted to Rajinikanth’s film Coolie.

Justice TV Thamilselvi ruled the plea had no merit. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) defended the decision, citing extensive violence, threatening scenes, smoking, and drinking as unsuitable for children.

The CBFC had offered a U/A certificate if cuts were made, but the producers refused further edits. Sun Pictures argued the 'A' rating limits family audience reach and cited inconsistency compared to other violent movies like KGF getting U/A certification.

Despite this, Coolie grossed around ₹400 crore worldwide in its first week.
