The Madras High Court granted an ad-interim anti-piracy injunction to prevent unauthorised broadcast and online circulation of the film Mardaani 3.
The case arose from a suit filed by Yash Raj Films ahead of the film’s theatrical release, citing concerns of possible piracy. The Court observed that unauthorised dissemination of content could cause irreparable harm to the producer’s commercial interests.
It also noted that broad injunctions may affect the lawful operations of intermediaries such as internet service providers and cable operators.
The Court directed that the injunction would operate subject to the producer furnishing an indemnity to cover any legitimate business losses suffered by the respondents.
