Madras High Court Restrains Centre from Publishing 2025 NIRF Rankings

The Madras High Court has restrained the Union Ministry of Education and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) from publishing the 2025 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings.

A division bench issued the interim stay while hearing a PIL filed by C Chellamuthu. 

The petitioner alleged that institutions manipulated data on student strength, salaries, placements, and research funds, as the NBA does not verify submissions.

The court has sought a counter-affidavit from the authorities and adjourned the matter to April 24, directing the NBA to ensure proper verification before publishing rankings.
