The Madras High Court sentenced advocate A. Mohandass to four months' jail and fined him ₹2,000 for contempt of court.
He refused to vacate a rented property despite clear eviction orders by both the High Court and the Supreme Court. Even after filing an affidavit promising to vacate by May 31, 2025, he defied the order and obstructed court officials.
The Court said his actions damaged public trust in the legal system and ordered the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu & Puducherry to begin disciplinary action.
The Court emphasised that such disobedience by lawyers must be seriously punished under the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971.
