Madras High Court Refuses to Pass Interim Injunction on Use of Ilaiyaraaja’s Song in Mrs & Mr

The Madras High Court refused to grant an interim injunction against the producers of Mrs & Mr for using an altered version of Ilaiyaraaja’s song “Sivarathiri” from the film Michael Madana Kamarajan.

Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy directed the producers, Vanitha Film Productions, to file a counter-affidavit within a week, stating that copyright claims need detailed examination.

Ilaiyaraaja claimed unauthorised use of his musical work and alleged misuse of his personality rights in film promotion.

The producers contended they secured rights from Echo Recording, the original film’s producers, and highlighted that related copyright disputes are already pending before the court.
