The Madras High Court has raised alarm over media channels and social media platforms profiting from slanderous campaigns against the judiciary.
A bench of Justices G.R. Swaminathan and K. Rajasekar, hearing a contempt case, noted a growing pattern of slanderous videos and misinformation being circulated after unfavourable verdicts.
The court observed that selective videos and misinformation are being used to erode public trust and warned that such monetised vilification cannot be tolerated.
The court urged the government to establish strict regulatory mechanisms to curb media trials and protect judicial integrity, emphasising that judges must not be silenced or intimidated by such attacks.
