Madras High Court Summons Advocate for Alleging Communal & Caste Bias Against Justice Swaminathan

The Madras High Court summoned Advocate S Vanchinathan for accusing Justice G.R. Swaminathan of casteist and communal bias in his judicial duties, holding the allegations as prima facie criminal contempt.

The Bench noted the Accused's prior suspension by the Bar Council of India and condemned his continued slanderous remarks on social media.

The Court clarified that while fair criticism of judgments is permissible, baseless accusations against judges harm judicial integrity and public confidence.

Although Vanchinathan distanced himself from the case, the Court insisted on his appearance on July 28, affirming that contempt proceedings safeguard the judiciary’s independence, not individual judges.
