The Maharashtra State Cabinet has approved amendments to the Slum Act to fast-track redevelopment and work toward a slum-free state.
As per the amendment to Section 15(1), the deadline to submit a slum redevelopment proposal is now 60 days (reduced from 120 days) after the land is declared a slum.
In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, if a government or semi-government body is involved in the project, land must be allotted within 30 days of issuing the Letter of Intent for a 30-year lease.
A newly added Section 33-B allows authorities to recover unpaid rent from developers who delay payments to slum dwellers.
