Maharashtra Grants Legal Relief to Widows by Limiting Court Fees on Succession Matters to ₹10,000

The Maharashtra Government, through a notification dated August 9, 2024, reduced the maximum court fee for widows from ₹75,000 to ₹10,000 under Section 46 of the Maharashtra Court Fees Act, 1959. 

This applies to applications under Article 10 of the First Schedule, including probate, letters of administration, and heirship certificates.

The Court acknowledged the clarification and instructed the registry to take necessary action as per the notification. 

This move offers major financial relief to widows and ensures better access to justice in succession matters pending before civil courts.
