Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar announced the state will introduce a law to ensure clean drinking water and impose fines on entities polluting it.
This comes amid rising Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) cases, linked to waterborne bacteria.
Abitkar stated that agencies, including the Centre, WHO, and State health department, are working together to prevent further outbreaks.
He emphasized that responsibility for the contamination will be fixed, and actions will be taken. The new law will ensure clean water through local bodies and penalize polluters.
The draft bill is expected to be presented in the upcoming Budget session.
