Supreme Court Grants Bail to Man Arrested under Anti-Conversion Law After Interfaith Marriage

The Supreme Court has granted bail to a man booked under Sections 3 and 5 of the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion Act, 2018, and Sections 318(4) and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The charges were filed after his interfaith marriage, allegedly involving unlawful religious conversion. The Court observed that both individuals were married with their families' approval and were peacefully residing together.

The court held that the State’s objection to bail was unsustainable as no coercion or misrepresentation was evident, and upheld the right to personal liberty under Article 21 while allowing bail. The matter will be heard next on 22nd July 2025. (Aman Siddiqui vs. State of Uttarakhand)
