Nepal Sees Deadly Unrest as Social Media Ban, Corruption Allegations Spark Protests; PM Oli Resigns

Violent protests erupted across Nepal after a social media ban, coupled with allegations of corruption and lack of economic opportunities, left at least 22 dead and many others injured.

Most demonstrators, largely from the Gen-Z community, faced live ammunition, tear gas, and water cannons in what has become the country’s worst unrest in decades.

In the aftermath, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli announced his resignation, and the social media ban was lifted. Several international organisations condemned the crackdown, calling the use of force against protesters “unnecessary” and “deeply worrying.”
