Meghalaya HC denies relief to 5th Sem law student falling short on attendance

  • Case Name: Bamang Nabam V. North Eastern Hills University
  • Judge(s): Justice H.S. Thangkhiew

The Meghalaya High Court refused to grant relief to the 5th-semester law student of the Shillong College for failing short on 70% of the attendance requirement.

The issue was whether the student, who cited medical reasons for attending only 60% of classes, could be allowed to appear for the End Semester Examinations despite the Legal Education Rules, 2008 permitting condonation of attendance only up to 65% for exceptional cases.

The court ruled that as per Rule 12, the student is ineligible to sit for the end-semester exams due to insufficient attendance. The petition was denied, and no relief was granted.
