Meghalaya High Court Directs Shillong Municipal Board to Build Stray Dog Shelter Within 30 Days

  • Case Name: Kaustav Paul v. State of Meghalaya & Ors.

The Meghalaya High Court has ordered the Shillong Municipal Board to complete the construction of a stray dog shelter within 30 days.

The directive came during a PIL hearing on relocating Shillong Zoo and addressing stray dog issues. Earlier, the court had sought an action report from the Board, revealing shelter construction delays.

The Board has now awarded a contract, and work is underway. The court also asked the Animal Husbandry Department to verify if its existing shelter can temporarily house stray dogs. The next hearing is on March 12, 2025.
