Meitei Body Seeks Supreme Court’s Intervention for Village Protection, IDP Resettlement

The Churachandpur Meitei United Committee urged Supreme Court judge Justice B.R. Gavai to ensure legal protection of Meitei villages in Kuki-dominated Churachandpur and resettle internally displaced persons (IDPs) with enhanced security.

They demanded government jobs for one member of each displaced family and self-managed relief camps.

The Relief Committee Manipur also sought early resettlement, equal and fair remuneration, free movement, fair wages, medical services, free education, and priority in recruitment. 

Ethnic violence since May 2023 has killed over 250 people and displaced thousands in clashes between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups.
