Motorola faces potential U.S. import ban over Ericsson’s 5G Patent claims

The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) has preliminarily ruled that Motorola Mobility, owned by Lenovo, infringed on Ericsson’s 5G patents.

If the final decision in April 2025 upholds this finding, Motorola's Moto G, Edge, and Razr models may face an import ban in the U.S., where the company holds a 14% market share.

Ericsson has secured similar injunctions in Brazil and Colombia and filed additional lawsuits in the UK and North Carolina.

Lenovo denies the allegations, asserting its commitment to fair licensing terms. This dispute highlights escalating global tensions over 5G patent rights and technology dominance.
