MP High Court: Disparity in Retirement Age for Veterinary Doctors is Arbitrary

The Madhya Pradesh High Court declared the exclusion of veterinary doctors from the enhanced retirement age of 65 years as discriminatory and unconstitutional under Article 14 of the Constitution.

A bench of Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Vivek Jain held that veterinary professionals, like allopathic and AYUSH doctors, deliver essential medical services—even if to animals—and deserve equal treatment

The bench directed the state government to amend service rules to extend the retirement age for veterinary doctors to 65 years, ensuring equality across medical professions.
