The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notice to the State Government on a PIL filed by Adv Rajendra Prasad Gupta demanding strict laws to curb online gambling and fake social media advertisements targeting youth.
The petitioner argued that such platforms mislead young people with promises of quick money, leading to financial loss and potential criminal behaviour.
The petitioner points out that, despite central advisories under the Consumer Protection Act and notifications from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Madhya Pradesh has not enacted specific regulations to address these issues.
The court has directed the state to file its response within four weeks.
